Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Maxx-Dri vest a ballistic vest?
No.  The Maxx-Dri Vest is NOT a ballistic vest.  It's simply a polyester derivative mesh fabric which acts as a spacer between your ballistic vest and your under-shirt so that fresh, cool air can circulate in between.  Our vest offers NO ballistic protection.  Consider it simply as a "high-tech" under-shirt.  No ballistic testing was done on this product as it is NOT meant to provide any sort of ballistic protection.  Always wear your ballistic vest while on duty.  Safety first!

Is the Maxx-Dri vest a carrier for my ballistic panels?
No. The Maxx-Dri vest is NOT a ballistic carrier. It does not take the place of your existing ballistic vest, nor does it act as a carrier for ballistic panels.

Is the Maxx-Dri vest able to be used for exterior carrier vests?
Yes.  The Maxx-Dri Vest was created and designed to be used with both interior-worn ballistic vests (ballistic vests worn beneath the uniform) and exterior carrier vests (ballistic vests worn on the outside of the uniform).  Officers have reported increased "comfort" using their Maxx-Dri Vest with external carrier ballistic vests.  This is because of the cushioning and weight-distribution benefits their Maxx-Dri Vest provides ......whether it's worn on the interior or exterior of their uniform.

How is the Maxx-Dri vest supposed to be worn?
The Maxx-Dri vest is designed to be worn over a cotton t-shirt or an Under Armour type of shirt. Your ballistic vest would then be worn on top of the Maxx-Dri vest. The Maxx-Dri vest is not intended to be worn in direct contact with your skin.  If you wear an outer carrier most people prefer to wear their Maxx-Dri Vest atop their uniform shirts and beneath their carriers.

Many officers purchase expensive Under Armour shirts to wear under their ballistic vest on duty. These expensive shirts are designed to wick moisture away from your body into the atmosphere. However, if you're wearing a non-breathable ballistic vest directly on top of one of these expensive under shirts, you're not allowing the shirt to do its job. What you end up with is an expensive under shirt and ballistic vest….both soaked with sweat.

What the Maxx-Dri vest allows is for these expensive under shirts (or even a cotton t-shirt) to breathe by allowing fresh air to enter the space between your under shirt and ballistic vest. This also allows for more moisture to be released into the atmosphere and less moisture being absorbed into your ballistic vest.

How does the Maxx-Dri vest work?
The Maxx-Dri vest works by simply creating a space between your ballistic vest and your body. When you enter an area in which fresh, cool air is available (i.e. your patrol car's air conditioning, a fan or even ambient fresh air), more of it will be able to get beneath your ballistic vest while wearing the Maxx-Dri vest. Prior to this, your ballistic vest was right against your body, not allowing your body to breathe.

Keeping the ballistic vest off of direct contact with your body also keeps your body from being suffocated by the ballistic vest and allows your undershirt to more easily wick moisture away from your body.

How thick is the Maxx-Dri vest? Will wearing it make my uniform tighter?
The Maxx-Dri vest is only 6mm in thickness. Wearing it should not affect your uniform in any way. Our test officers stated that they didn't even feel like they had anything extra on while testing the Maxx-Dri vest. The Maxx-Dri vest also only weighs just a few ounces.

How do I know what size to order?
The fit of the Maxx-Dri Ultra Comfort Vest is not designed to follow the same criteria as one would have for buying an article of clothing like a shirt.  Its purpose is not to act like a shirt but rather as a spacer to create airflow to facilitate evaporation of perspiration.  This allows for dryness, cooling and overall comfort.

After working with dozens of officers most reported a more "snug" fit works best beneath their body armor and reduced any riding-up and shifting beneath their duty
vests. Therefore, we recommend a "snug" fit by going one size smaller than an everyday man's tee shirt size.  For those who are extra lean with waist sizes between 31" - 33", sometimes going two sizes smaller is preferred.

For females the consensus has been to go two sizes smaller relative to a man's tee shirt size.

Please know there is elastic along the sides mitigating the concern
for being too tight because the elastic allows for stretchability.

To further help
guide you, the following are recommendations based upon real-life situations that worked for others:

5'11”- 275 lbs -48 chest -38-40 waist → XL
6'1” - 245 lbs -48~50 chest – 40 waist → XL
6'11"-225 lbs -46 chest-39 waist --> Large
6'1"-240 lbs - 40 chest-38 waist --> Large
6'1”-210 lbs – 46 chest -36 waist → bet Medium & Large
5'6” - 220 lbs – 41 chest – 40 waist → bet Medium & Large
5'-9"- 160  lbs - 43 chest - 38 waist → Medium
5'6” - 220 lbs – 41 chest – 40 waist → bet Medium & Large
6'1”- 195 lbs – 44 chest – 35 waist → Medium
6'2”-187 lbs- 40 chest-39 waist→ Medium
6'2" - 202 lbs -45 chest-32 waist, muscular build
, low body fat -> Small
5'10" -170 lbs - sport coat 38 Small - 31 waist -> XS
5'11” -175 lbs -39 chest-33 waist → XS

For females we recommend going down two sizes relative to a man's tee shirt size.

Lastly, if a person assesses himself or herself between two sizes, both will most likely fit snugly.  If a very snug, compression-like fit is preferred, we recommend going with the smaller size. Conversely, if a slightly less snug fit is preferred, we recommend the larger size.

Is the Maxx-Dri vest for hot weather only?
The Maxx-Dri Vest was designed to be a year-round product.  It helps you stay cooler and drier in the hot weather months, and helps you stay drier and warmer in the cold weather months.

How will the Maxx-Dri Vest help me stay warmer and drier during winter cold months?
While testing the Maxx-Dri vest during cold weather months officers reported benefits of feeling drier and warmer while wearing their Maxx-Dri Vest.  This is due to the fact that the Maxx-Dri Vest allows your base layer shirt to breathe....which leads to decreased perspiration.  Perspiration and dampness in cold weather are what actually make you cold.  The secret to staying warm in cold weather is to layer and STAY DRY. The Maxx-Dri Vest helps you stay drier, which in turn helps keep you warmer.
