The Keto (Ketogenic) diet has taken the world by storm just like so many other diets of past that quickly garnered cult-like followings. The most notable of these is the Atkins Diet. Developed by cardiologist Robert C. Atkins in the 1960s, the Atkins Diet became incredibly popular in 2003 and 2004. At it’s peak, roughly 1 out of 10 people in North America claimed to be on some sort of “low carb” diet.
Enter 2017 and the start of the Keto craze. Fun fact: The Ketogenic diet was originally discovered in 1921 by Dr. Russel Wilder, MD of The Mayo Clinic as a treatment for epilepsy. Millions of weight-loss success stories later, the Ketogenic diet has taken the world by storm. It’s hard to go out in public without hearing somebody talking about Keto. If they’re not on it, someone they know is. And although the jury is still out on the long term health effects of a diet comprised of 90% fat, Keto mania is in full effect.
And that brings us to one of the hardest parts of the Keto diet; dessert. As someone who did the Keto diet for over two years, there were two things I truly missed; crunch and dessert. The former was taken care of with pork rinds for the most part. But the latter was always a tough work around...until I found this amazing keto ice cream dessert recipe.
This 5 minute keto dessert recipe is so easy to make and comes out so delicious, I was actually angry that I didn’t discover it soon. But no sense crying about that after the fact. Hopefully you’re reading this early in your keto diet journey and you can use it to fuel your transformation.
Ingredients for the best keto chocolate ice cream dessert:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder (NOTE: If you don’t like chocolate, you can substitute this with 4 TBSP of natural peanut butter for a delicious keto peanut butter ice cream treat)
2 TBSP Swerve sugar alternative
1 TSP vanilla extract
2 TBSP sugar free chocolate chips (optional...burg recommend)
Directions for the best keto chocolate ice cream dessert:
Add the above ingredients into a tightly sealable container (like a small mason jar or something similar). Shake vigorously for 1 minute. Place jar/container into freezer for 4-5 hours. Remove. Grab a spoon. Get ready to be blown away.

Those on it can also go for longer periods of time without eating due to the body switching over to using ketones (from fat) as fuel.
